You're worth it

First of all, Merry Christmas! I love this time of year. I’m glad I live in a part of the country that actually has cold weather. I couldn’t imagine singing “o the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful…” when it’s 82 and sunny. Just doesn’t seem right.

I want to take a few minutes and look at Christmas from a slightly different angle. We love the view of little 8lb 10oz baby Jesus. We love the story of the Virgin Mary and the wise men. But not many of us think of the amazing sacrifice Christ made to give us these wonderful stories.

Jesus is God. Therefore He, prior to His earthly birth, encompassed the attributes of God. Let’s look at three of them.

1. Omnipresent – God is everywhere present. When Jesus submitted to the Father’s plan, He willfully restrained Himself to the body of a man. He was stuck in one place. How odd. Christ was the agent of Creation and now He’s subject to it.
2. Omniscience – God is all knowing, however, when He submitted Himself to human form that also involved His brain. I know that Christ gave up His omniscience because Luke 2:40 tells us that He was “filled with wisdom” in the progressive form.
3. Omnipotent – God is all powerful. Jesus was not. He was subject to the will of the Father. He was even limited by lack of faith. (Mt 13:58)

Jesus had quite the life in heaven. But when God instituted sacrifice as the means for forgiveness He put into motion the method for our salvation; the One pure sacrifice which is Christ. This is fascinating to me. Jesus willingly instituted a means for forgiveness that would require His death.

Knowing that man would reject Him, hate Him and murder Him, He still felt that it was worth it. Knowing that you and I would disobey Him, refuse His love and sin against Him, He still decided that you are still worth it. I guess it’s really true: 16“For God so loved the world, ◙ that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
